Scruffts 2011

The Association for Protection of Animals in the Algarve (APAA) will hold the 12th Scruffts ‘Dog of the Year Show’ on September 18 in the pavilion at the Fatacil showground in Lagoa.

The president of APAA, Alan Camplin-Smith, told the Algarve Resident: “We are pleased that we have again Skinners Pet Food as our main sponsor for this year’s event.

“We also have created a Facebook page called ‘scrufftsalgarve’ for those who would like to be friends of the show and follow along as we prepare for the event,” he added. 

Two classes at Scruffts 2011 have been revised this year and will allow visitors at the show to vote for their favourite mixed breed and also pedigree dog with the votes counted during the lunch break and announced before the afternoon judging period.

In addition a new class has been created for ‘Young Handler and Dog Look-alike’ which will allow children to show their handling skills and ability with their dog.

Meanwhile, a charity fund-raising barbeque in aid of the Algarve animal charity APAA will be held at the Holiday Inn Algarve in Armação de Pêra on June 18.

The evening will include a selection of both Indian and western dishes, with Howard Parkin playing a variety of popular tunes during the evening.

Tickets to the barbeque cost €25 per person and include wine and water and cost €12.50 for children under 12.
