Scrapyard murder suspect arrested

PJ police have arrested the suspected murderer of a 75-year-old man known locally as the “Sucateiro de Lagoa” (Scrap merchant of Lagoa).
Online news portal Sul Informação reports that the suspect was found by a family member of the victim who tracked him down and handed him over to the police.
Although reports state that the PJ police have confirmed the arrest, no further details have been released so far.
Scrapyard owner Luís Duarte had been found shot in the head at his company’s warehouse, Auto Peçusa, in Pateiro early on Monday morning (March 10).
The suspect, a former associate of the merchant, is believed to have had arranged a meeting with the scrap merchant at the company’s warehouse early that morning before anyone else was around.
The man was then captured by video surveillance shooting the merchant in the head as he sat at his desk and making his getaway in Duarte’s Peugeot Partner van, later found abandoned in the nearby area of Calvário.
