Scouts to protect Serra de Sintra

IN TOTAL, 80 young people from the Associação de Escuteiros de Portugal and the Corpo Nacional de Escutas, the Portuguese scouts association and the national scout corps, are currently patrolling the Serra de Sintra daily, from 9am until 7pm. The objective is to protect the respective forested area and contribute to the raising of awareness among local people and visitors for preserving the environmental richness of the borough. This initiative, which will run until September, essentially intends to promote the scout movement and the training of young people in both the defence and conservation of natural patrimony. Through the presence of these scouts, a contribution will be made to minimising the risk of fires in the region. This project is the result of an agreement between the aforementioned scout organisations and Sintra Câmara.
