Scorching heatwave on the way with temperatures set to soar towards 40ºC

Summer will be starting with a blistering heatwave in Portugal as thermometers could nudge towards 40ºC in southern parts of the country next week.

Forecasters say temperatures will begin rising on Saturday (June 20), curiously the first day of summer.
In the Algarve, maximum temperatures will be topping the 30ºC this weekend and will continue rising into next week, with Monday and Tuesday expected to be the hottest days across the country.

Portugal’s bathing season officially started on June 6, with Prime Minister António Costa travelling to Portimão’s Praia da Rocha to head the opening ceremony (click here).
