ACCORDING TO Education Minister, Maria de Lurdes Rodrigues, the Algarve is probably the region which has done the most to modernise the country’s school system.
Speaking at a press conference in the Civil Governor’s office in Faro last week, she praised the education initiatives that had been implemented over the past 10 years and discussed future plans.
The region has invested 50 million euros in a project to open 38 new schools, revamp 50 and close 98 of the smallest institutions by 2009. As part of the modernisation plans, all primary schools will be equipped with a library, gymnasium, computer room and a teachers’ lounge.
