School stars

SOME OF Portugal’s top football stars, including Benfica striker Nuno Gomes and Sporting captain João Moutinho, have said they would be interested in returning to school to complete their education.

President of the Portuguese professional football players syndicate, Joaquim Evangelista said: “We have already approached 1,600 players and around 850 are interested in returning to school.”

The adult education scheme, New Chances, was launched by the government in 2005 and aims to promote the benefits of furthering the educational qualifications of the general population.
