School children out of control

More than 3,200 criminal occurrences took place in the school environment in Portugal in the last academic year (2011-2012). The PSP dealt with a total of 3,222 crime cases (-16 on the previous school year), the majority being related to bodily harm, theft, verbal abuse and vandalism incidents. Sixty-two people were arrested in schools last year, mainly due to crimes of robbery and theft, while cases of verbal abuse were on the increase, said the PSP.
