Sardine festival starts tonight

Fish lovers are in for a treat as the Sardine Festival in Portimão starts tonight (Friday) and runs until August 15, with a vast programme of entertainment.

The festival, now in its 17th year, attracts thousands of visitors who descend on the riverside area of the city to eat grilled sardines while listening to live music.

Portugal’s big names in music performing at the festival include Dulce Pontes (tonight), Áurea (August 9), Mickael Carreira (12) and Trovante (15).

Other highlights include The 70s (August 6), Cuban band Charanga Habanera (6), All That Blues (13) and A Night with The Beatles (14).

The festival starts at 6pm each night and costs €5 per person.

Children up to 10 years old enter for free.
