No-one can be sure, but one thing is certain: there have been no earth tremors felt on São Jorge island in the Azores for two consecutive nights this week (Sunday and Monday). Locals hope this means the seismic-volcanic crisis that has played out on the island since March 19 is abating. There have been thousands of tremors in the intervening time – none of them however going into ‘serious quake’ territory. The island remains on V4 alert (which means the threat of eruption continues), but the ‘feeling’ is that the crisis may be over.
