São Brás works on ‘immigrant integration’

São Brás de Alportel council has announced it has begun working on its new Municipal Plan for the Integration of Immigrants.

According to the council, the goal is to find out how many foreigners are living in the municipality and help them become active members within it.

A meeting has thus been called for the Centro de Artes e Ofícios on February 18, starting at 8.30pm, involving “a number of institutions that are in regular contact with the foreign population and have an active role in their integration”.

The plan is due to run alongside Portugal’s Strategic Migration Plan – currently available for public consultation – and financed by the European Fund for the Integration of Third-World Nationals.

São Brás de Alportel is known for its pro-active attitude towards foreigners. Last year, it appointed a foreign resident ombudsman who is available to meet the foreign community on the third Thursday of every month (see story https://www.portugalresident.com/s%C3%A3o-br%C3%A1s-appoints-foreign-resident-ombudsman)
