São Brás warns landowners about new land clearance rules

São Brás de Alportel has become the latest borough in the Algarve to carry out an awareness campaign about the new land clearance rules for rural property owners, who have until March 15 to clear the land around their rural houses.

The campaign started on February 5 and is being carried out by the municipal civil protection services alongside the firefighters, GNR police and other local authorities.

In a nutshell, rural property owners are obliged to clear land in a 50m radius around the exterior walls of the property’s home (click here).

If they fail to do so, they risk hefty fines up to €10,000 and local councils taking over and clearing the land on the owners’ behalf.
