A €360,000 project to prevent forest fires in Serra do Caldeirão has been submitted to the bosses of Portugal’s rural development programme (PDR) by São Brás de Alportel council.
Hopes are that funding may be obtained to take preventative measures against forest fires, which in 2012 ravaged “half of the municipality’s land”, explained mayor Vítor Guerreiro.
