Santos Populares festivals celebrated in the Algarve

Saints || Portugal’s traditional Popular Saints celebrations will bring two big parties to Lagoa and Carvoeiro this Friday and Saturday night (June 27 and 28).
Organised by the union of parishes of Lagoa and Carvoeiro, the parties will be a celebration of sardines, parades, music and entertainment, promising a fun night for locals and tourists alike.
The first, organised by local scouts, takes place at Lagoa’s 5 de Outubro garden, starting at 6pm, while the second (on Saturday) will be held at Carvoeiro’s multisport complex. Festivities there will begin at 8pm in a joint collaboration with the local Sociedade Carvoeirense group.
The Festas dos Santos Populares are some of Portugal’s oldest traditions. They honour the three Catholic saints, John, Peter and Anthony, and are celebrated across the country with street parades and parties throughout the month of June.
