Dozens of doctors in the department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproduction Medicine in Lisbon’s Santa Maria hospital have sent a further appeal, this time directly to health minister Manuel Pizarro, for the reinstatement of sacked bosses Diogo Ayres de Campos and Luísa Pinto. The pair were ‘sacked’ simply for their queries over plans for a structural upgrade of the department, and subsequent temporary relocation of the medical team. Their dismissal smacked from the outset of something political. The medics left without their superiors have said that the integrity of the department has been put at risk. They ask for a “return to normality”.
