The CASA 2019 year drew to a close on Saturday, December 7 when members celebrated Christmas with a dinner at Monte Mar Restaurant in Monte Carvoeiro.
After the welcome drink and time to catch up with friends in the bar, members moved into the main restaurant for a three-course buffet-style Christmas dinner. The tasty buffet dinner offered the choice of both beef and bacalhau (codfish) in addition to the traditional succulent turkey, followed, of course, by Christmas pudding, fruit salad and ice-cream.
Singer Filomena Batista entertained CASA members all evening, providing a quiet background throughout the meal then upping the tempo after the meal for an hour of dancing, though many seemed to be too full to be tempted onto the floor.
Before coffee was served (with mince pies, naturally), a spirited man dressed in red carrying a large sack and, accompanied by the sound of the well-known song ‘Jingle Bells’, joined the group. He distributed assorted presents to the assembled company before vanishing as mysteriously as he had arrived.
“We thank this unidentified man for his generosity, his festive spirit and for standing in for our regular Santa who was unable to join us at short notice. We would also like to extend our thanks to Filomena for the music and to Clementina and her friendly staff at the Monte Mar for the excellent service all evening,” said a spokesperson for the Carvoeiro-based social club.
The next scheduled event is the special ‘After-Hangover’ Dinner in Carvoeiro on Saturday, January 18, 2020.
