THE SIXTH sand sculpture exhibition festival, Festival Internacional de Esculturas em Areia (FIESA), held annually at Pêra, is under construction in preparation for its grand opening to the public on May 22.

Hollywood cinema is the theme of the sculptures this year. Artists from all over the world will use 35,000 tonnes of sand to construct iconic images associated with Hollywood including references to films such as Casablanca, Alien, ET, The Wizard of Oz and King Kong.

Visitors can view the sculptures between May 22 and October 22 from 10am until midnight. Tickets can be bought at the venue and cost seven euros for adults, four euros for children between six and 12 and children under five enter for free.
