In March, well known Algarve fundraiser Peta Birch lost her life in a tragic car accident. The Saluting for Charity group is now holding a charity event in honour of her life and charitable work on Saturday, September 21 at Breeze in Vale do Lobo Praça at 9am.
In this year’s fourth annual charity event, Lulu ( Lulushanti Yoga) and Lucy (Luckshmi from Integral Yoga) are inviting all members of the public and yoga enthusiasts across the Algarve to join together on World Peace Day, to raise money for local charities and bring awareness to this worldwide day of union and giving.
Last year, a group of 54 people participated raising more than €8,000 by taking on the challenge of completing 108 rounds of sun salutations. For those who wanted to participate but did not want to do the sun salutations, there was a gazebo of guided meditation for the duration of the event.
This year the format of the event will be the same but will also include other schools of yoga across the globe, participating on the same day, doing the same challenge and raising money for their local charities.
Children of all ages are welcome to participate and raise money, as there will be a supervised kids’ yoga area. Family members who don’t want to participate are still welcome to join, as they can buy raffle tickets and enjoy a breakfast at the restaurant, with proceedings also going towards the charity.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to several local charities including the Peta Birch Foundation which supports children at the Santa Casa da Misericórdia, ARC Horse Welfare, the Roma Families, Little Miracles which supports children with special needs, CASA which supports underprivileged families, the elderly and the homeless, and Canil de São Francisco de Assis and Refúgio dos Burros, supporting abandoned and mistreated animals.
To enter, participants must download and bring a sponsor sheet, and raise themselves a minimum of €50. Alternatively, anybody can donate through a Paypal link. This can be done through the charity event website.
