It is almost time for the opening of Castro Marim’s most popular Christmas attraction: its “salt nativity scene”, or Presépio de Sal, made with 10 tons of locally produced salt.
The inauguration is scheduled for Sunday, December 1 at 3pm at Casa do Sal.
It can be visited every day between 10am and 1pm and 2pm and 6pm except on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, when it will be open to visits from 2pm to 8pm.
Casa do Sal has been displaying huge nativity scenes for many years, but they are now more popular than ever thanks to locals’ creativity: the “best salt in the world”, as they describe it, is used as the main ‘ingredient’.
