Salt Lake racers

Parkalgar Honda paid a highly successful first visit to the Miller Motorsports Park in Utah, USA for the seventh round of the World Supersports Championship at the weekend.

Undoubtedly the revelation of the season so far, new Algarve-based team rider Eugene Laverty from Northern Ireland – three wins from seven races – scorched to a superb second place finish in Salt Lake City after leading the field for 17 of the 18 laps.

Only the dangerous overtaking manoeuvre from Ten Kate Honda’s Kenan Sofuoglu, the only man with previous experience on the circuit, a few corners short of the chequered flag prevented the Parkalgar ace from registering yet another victory for the team which will host the last meeting of the series in October.

Team manager Simon Buckmaster put his protégée’s latest performance in perspective following the tour de force: “We are very happy as Eugene has now closed the gap to just nine points (on overall title standings leader and third placed Cal Crutchlow from England on a Yamaha) in the championship race.”

The exciting duel, ever more likely to go all the way to the final lap in the Algarve, is set to continue in San Marino on Sunday June 21.
