Sales of products made from insects have exceeded all expectations, SIC television news reports. The selection of energy bars and ‘chocolates’ offered by Portugal Bugs are largely made using insect larvae. But there are also ‘snacks’ made from crickets which ‘are going down very well’. The focus of these foods is for a much more sustainable/ affordable form of protein. Since Portugal’s decision last year to allow the commercialisation of foods using insects, 130 energy bars and more than 4,000 snacks have been launched by various companies.
