January sales in Portugal will be marked by strict control by the country’s food and economic standards agency ASAE.
Dozens of inspectors will be paying visits to shops across the country to ensure that they are complying with the law during the sale period, which lasts until February 28.
Inspectors will be looking at labels to ensure that the old price and discounted price are clearly displayed and that shops are not running promotions (promoções) and sales (saldos) simultaneously which is against the law, among other items.
