Saint Andrew’s Ball

Saint Andrew’s Ball next month

The Saint Andrew’s Society of the Algarve is organising its Saint Andrew’s Ball on Saturday, November 25. Once again it will be at the five-star Penina Hotel, near Portimão.

Participants will be greeted by the skirl of the pipes, from 7pm, played by piper Malcolm MacGillivray (who has again exceptionally agreed to come out of retirement to play!).

“Following a bubbly reception, there will be a bounteous and sumptuous buffet accompanied by wine, followed by coffee and Atholl Brose,” said Doug McAdam, Chieftain.

“Afterwards, Scottish dancing will, for the umpteenth year running, be to the accompaniment of our excellent ceilidh band from Scotland, The Sound of Islay. Each dance will be talked and walked through beforehand so no need for beginners to hang back! Otherwise, just sit back and enjoy the spectacle! So, a great opportunity to get out your glad rags – kilts can be worn if available.”

Tickets cost €50 for Society members and €52.50 for non-members. If you prefer not to drive and would rather spend the night at the hotel after the ball, perhaps with a round of golf before or after, the hotel is offering special rates for ball participants.
