Sailors rescued

The Portuguese Navy rescued two individuals aboard a sailboat that was drifting about 10 kilometres south of the Faro-Olhão port area on June 12.

Two German nationals, who were aboard the boat, made an emergency call to the Navy at about 7am.

A spokesman for the Portuguese Navy explained: “There was a malfunction with the boat’s engine and as there was no wind in that area, the men were unable to sail.”

The Navy immediately sent a rescue team from the Faro Maritime Police, who towed the boat to Olhão port, where it moored safely at about 10am
