Two sailors in a Belgian-flagged vessel were rescued on October 31 by a merchant ship off the coast of Sagres.
On the same day in another incident, two Spaniards and one Argentinean were rescued by a Portuguese Air Force helicopter 300 kilometres southwest of Cabo de São Vicente, Sagres.
According to the Coordinating Centre for Maritime Search and Rescue, the Belgian vessel, Mamour, was 13 metres long and sank around 180 kilometres west of Sagres, in strong tides.
The other boat, El Almogrote, was 10 metres long and sank about 430 kilometres northeast of Casablanca.
According to Lusa news agency, the Moroccan authorities requested the support of Portuguese maritime rescue authorities, who sent a Merlin helicopter to the scene.
