Portimão Audi MedCup stage winners Emirates Team New Zealand retained their firm grip on the 2009 prestigious sailing trophy with a fourth consecutive victory at the season-ending Caja Med Murcia Region event.
The weekend in Spanish waters saw the Dean Barker-led Kiwis triumph despite a heavy storm followed by two days without any wind whatsoever during which racing was not possible at all. The USA’s 2008 champions Quantum Racing and Sweden’s Artemis took second and third places respectively overall while another excellent runner-up berth from Pedro Mendonça and the Portuguese Bigamist 7 made sure of retaining fifth place for the national colours.
