A new online event which aims to showcase what some believe is the “best sunset in Europe” has been unveiled.
Called ‘Sagres Sunset Shots’, the event will see several artists, bands and DJs performing at Forte do Beliche in August with a stunning sunset in the background. The concerts will be streamed online.
Portuguese Fado singer Cuca Roseta and DJ Christian F will perform on the opening day (August 14), while singer-songwriter João Pedro Pais and DJ Eddie Ferrer will take the stage on August 15. Singer Viviane and local band Naomi & The Raposeira Dub Collective will bring the event to a close on August 16.
The performances will be filmed with three cameras, including one drone, in order to provide the best views possible and will be streamed live on the ‘VisitAlgarve’, ‘Algarve Tourism’, ‘VisitAlgarve_ES’ and ‘Município de Vila do Bispo’ Facebook pages as well as the ‘Visit Algarve’ YouTube page sometime between 8pm and 9pm, depending on when the sun starts to set.
“The sunset in Sagres is considered a unique moment, with the colours of the sun changing gradually as it sets in just a few minutes over the vast blue sea of the Atlantic Ocean,” the Algarve tourism board (RTA) says in a press release.
RTA boss João Fernandes said the event was planned out with the current Covid-19 restrictions in mind, giving people a chance to witness the beauty of Sagres’ sunset online without the risk of contagion.
Meanwhile, Vila do Bispo Mayor Adelino Soares believes the initiative will help promote the municipality’s unique landscapes among thousands of viewers.
“Sharing this beautiful view of our borough is an opportunity to strengthen the appeal of our destination, which has unique attractions and provides unforgettable experiences to those who visit us,” he said.
The Covid-19 pandemic has forced event organisers to come up with original ideas to continue providing entertainment whilst avoiding large gatherings of people.
Streaming performances online or having artists perform from moving vehicles are some of the most popular solutions they have come up with so far.
