Sagres’ hugely popular birdwatching festival starts taking bookings

It’s still two months away, but organisers are already inviting people to sign up for this year’s birdwatching festival in Sagres, which will take place earlier than usual, between September 30 and October 5.

As many of the activities are limited to a certain number of people, organisers want everyone to have a chance to sign up in time.

The festival is considered Portugal’s largest birdwatching event, having attracted an unprecedented “1,000 visitors from 20 countries” last year.

This year, it will feature over 300 activities including birdwatching trips, bird ringing, releases of wild birds that had been under recovery and even dolphin watching trips.

The event is organised by the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA), Almargem Association and Vila do Bispo council.
