Sagres bodyboarder Joana Schenker wins fourth national title

Sagres-based bodyboarder Joana Schenker continues to add to her already impressive list of achievements, having become Portugal’s national female bodyboarding champion for the fourth year in a row.

Her victory in Ericeira in the last weekend of August gave her the title with one more lap still to go.

It is actually the fifth time she is Portugal’s bodyboarding champion but in 2013 she did not officially receive the title as she was not yet a Portuguese citizen.

The 29-year-old’s success is also recognised at an international level as she is Europe’s three-time reigning champion as well – a feat that no one has ever achieved before.

She is currently in Japan to take part in the latest lap of the international APB Tour, taking place between today and Monday (September 1-4).

Schenker was born in 1987 in Sagres, the oldest of four daughters. Her German parents settled in Portugal to raise their family in “a natural and relaxed environment”, according to her online biography.
