Faro Civil Governor Isilda Gomes has announced the opening of a police division at Faro airport in 2012 and a GNR station in Vila do Bispo in 2011 in a bid to boost safety levels in the region.

She said the government intended to continue investing in security and that the two projects would be vital for the Algarve.

“The police division at the airport is expected to be inaugurated in 2012, with works starting next year.”

Meanwhile, the governor announced the purchase of five vehicles for the Civil Protection and the approval of the fire prevention and seismic risk plans for the Algarve as part of the Algarve Seguro (Safe Algarve) programme.
