Environmental agency APA has lifted the swimming ban at Praia dos Salgados (Albufeira) after new tests found the water to be “microorganism-free”.
In other words, it is safe to go into the water again, though no-one had been taking much notice of the ban since it was imposed on Tuesday (click here).
Initial reports suggested the micro-organisms came from a sewage pipe at Lagoa dos Salgados, though APA is still not sure.
“We are working with the council to figure out what the problem was”, said a spokesperson today.
Praia dos Salgados is one of 24 beaches in Albufeira flying the Blue Flag, a European seal of excellence award for beaches and marinas meeting quality standards.
