AS FROM November 2006, Ryanair will be operating a new daily service from Faro to Madrid. By introducing this new connection, the company brings its total number of international services from Faro to five: Brussels, Dublin, Shannon, Barcelona and Madrid.
The new service will be offered every day at the following times:
• Madrid-Faro at 12.50pm.
• Faro-Madrid at 1.35pm.
In its first year of operation, it has been estimated that approximately 100,000 passengers will take advantage of the new route. In addition, the new service is also expected to create 100 new jobs in the Algarve and generate around 21 million euros in tourism income.
Ryanair began operating from Faro in March of 2003 and, in just three years, has transported more than 150,000 passengers.
The reduced air fares offered by low-cost companies are stimulating the development of tourism in the region, especially with regard to the Spanish market, because Ryanair is also offering a new service between Faro and Girona (Barcelona). The Algarve’s golf sector in particular is expected to benefit from the new routes.
