Ryanair plane forced to make emergency landing at Faro Airport

Tyre burst on take-off

Dozens of emergency vehicles raced to the scene today as Faro airport sounded the red alert: a Ryanair plane carrying around 190 passengers was forced to perform an emergency landing after one of its tyres shredded on take-off.

The plane was only able to land after it had ‘liberated fuel over Faro bay’, in the words of SIC Notícias – suggesting fuel will have had to be dumped, as well as used up as the plane circled the region.

The process took around an hour, explains SIC.

The incident was called in shortly after 8am – the flight having taken off at 7.50am.

The emergency landing, which can be seen on the Vigilantes de Estrada Facebook page was performed in safety, albeit the shredded tyre is clearly seen ‘flapping about’. ND
