Irish low-cost airline Ryanair has announced it will finally be linking Faro to Frankfurt’s main airport, starting March 28, 2017. There will be one flight every day, with tickets available on the airline’s website.
Ryanair already links Faro to Frankfurt Hahn airport, though this leaves passengers a full 120 kms away from the German city.
The new destination (Frankfurt am Main) will deposit travellers just 12 km from Frankfurt proper, and in one of the busiest airports in the world.
Ryanair’s move to Frankfurt am Main will also create new routes to Palma de Majorca, Alicante and Malaga.
The four new air links will be served by Boeing 737-800 planes, are expected to attract another 400,000 passengers to Frankfurt am Main, and represent a €183 million investment.
It is a move that the Belfast Telegraph says “pits Ryanair against Lufthansa”, as the punchy airline continues its expansion into Europe.
