A 51-year-old Russian tourist fell over 20 metres to his death on Wednesday evening after a freak fall from the platform leading to Albufeira’s iconic Praia do Peneco clifftop elevator.
PJ police are investigating the circumstances of the fall. All that is has been released so far is that the man was in the company of his wife when he fell, and apparently on a wall.
By the time authorities arrived (9pm), Maritime spokesman Ricardo Santos Arrabaça told Lusa that the tourist was already dead.
His body was later removed and transported to Portimão’s office of legal medicine for autopsy.
