Russian man killed in Peneco cliff fall

A 51-year-old Russian man died after falling 10 metres from a cliff at Albufeira’s Praia do Peneco. The incident happened at around 8.45pm on Wednesday, January 17.

Says national tabloid Correio da Manhã, the man was walking his dog in the area when it is believed he decided to climb onto a wall near the edge of a cliff overlooking the beach.

However, he apparently “lost his balance” and fell onto the rocks below. The tabloid suggests that the man had been drinking beforehand.

By the time emergency services arrived, the victim had suffered cardiac arrest and his death was confirmed at the scene.

Says CM, the man was with his wife at the time the tragedy happened.

His body was due to be autopsied at Portimão Hospital’s office of legal medicine and the case is being investigated by the Polícia Judiciária.
