A 26-year-old Russian was arrested on Sunday morning after scaling ‘dozens of metres’ from the rocks to the first platform of the April 25 suspension bridge over the Tejo river, linking the ‘margem sul’ with Lisbon. The young man was in the company of other people who managed to elude police. He had in his possession “at least two cameras and a mobile phone”, and told police his plan was to take photographs from the top of the structure. This ‘trend’ by young climbers to scale the bridge is not new. The Russian has been ordered to appear before magistrates in Lisbon today.
