Running for the Cadela Carlota dogs

Algarve resident Marie Hindle is running the Lisbon Half Marathon to raise “much-needed” funds for the dogs at the Cadela Carlota animal protection association based in Lagos.

Not a habitual runner, Marie is a busy mother of three who runs her own painting and decorating business alongside her plumber partner. Living and working in the Western Algarve for over 10 years, and being a lifelong animal lover, Marie decided to put her passion for animal welfare to good use by signing up and training for the 21-km competition, which takes place on March 22.

The Lisbon Half Marathon starts at 10am on the Almada south side of 25 de Abril Bridge. The route then takes her over the bridge, follows the waterfront westward and finishes at the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos.

Having adopted their own dog, Millie, when she was abandoned along with her two sisters and cruelly thrown over the wall into Marie’s garden, just a few weeks old, Marie became aware of the plight of many dogs in the Algarve. Millie’s two sisters were subsequently adopted.

By raising sponsorship money for her run, Marie will be helping Cadela Carlota to help more dogs find new homes and to create space for others to begin their journey “from street to home”.
