Rugby – More England Glory

NEW-LOOK England continued their successful start under new coach, Andy Robinson, by battering South Africa 32-16. Injured Jonny Wilkinson watched stand-in Charlie Hodgson put in a commanding performance, the in-form fly-half contributing 27 points with a try, two conversions, five penalties and a drop goal.

Ireland faced less formidable opposition in the shape of the US but still impressed with a 55-6 winning margin. Ulster debutant, Tommy Bowe, and provincial colleague, David Humphreys, stood out in a game which never reached the heights of last weekend’s win against the Springboks.

Scotland’s wait for a victory against Australia continues, however, the Wallabies earning a hard-fought 31-17 win at Hampden Park. The losing streak dates back to 1982.

France were upset 14-24 by Argentina’s Pumas.
