RTA thanks hotel schools for “award-winning generation of chefs”

The Algarve tourism board (RTA) has congratulated the region’s hotel and tourism schools for the success many of its students have had in the world of gastronomy – most recently Chef Rui Silvestre and his team at Bon Bon restaurant in Carvoeiro, awarded with an impressive Michelin star last week.

“The success of these former students of the Algarve’s hotel and tourism schools is an example of the excellent education that is provided,” said the RTA in a statement.

Another example is João Viegas, the Michelin-starred chef of São Gabriel restaurant in Almancil who was named ‘Chef of the Year 2015’ in Portugal’s biggest professional cooking contest.

“The RTA has always considered training to be a key element in the development of the Algarve’s tourism sector. We need to promote the training of professionals, be it at a tourism office, a hotel or in a restaurant’s kitchen,” said RTA president Desidério Silva.

“This is why we highlight the work developed by the Algarve’s hotel and tourism schools, which have trained a new generation of chefs who are bolstering our gastronomy through a creative and modern take on traditional local products,” he added.
