Ante-post backers in this Saturday’s King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Newbury are seriously out of pocket. Former favourites Motivator, Yeats, Doyen and Ouija Board, as well as the 2004 Derby winner North Light have all fallen from favour. Motivator and Ouija Board will not even come under starters orders, North Light has been retired and “Doyen’s” participation is doubtful. That leaves Yeats whose odds of 12-1 reflect a recent lifeless effort at Saint Cloud. Azamour will now start favourite although unproven over the distance, with Grey Swallow and Bago next in the betting. I give 40-1 chance The Geezer the nod to show that his disappointing Derby run was all wrong.
