Our latest Royal British Legion Portugal Branch lunch was a bit different this time – we were very fortunate to enjoy a fabulous wine tasting at Quinta da Tôr.
Quinta da Tôr is set in the hills just outside Loulé and the beautiful surroundings were only surpassed by the quality of the wines. Whether you’re an adventurous wine connoisseur or a quaffer, you couldn’t help but enjoy the wines not forgetting delicious tapas served with them.
The event was well attended with a mix of RBL members and supporters and some holidaymakers all of whom made a point of saying it was a well organised and most enjoyable time.
Our next event is taking place at Ponte Romana in Silves on Thursday, June 29 at 12.30pm. You will be served with the Portuguese couvert of olives, bread, butter, pâté and those delicious carrots with garlic and olive oil. Then there is a choice of ‘Jardineira’ (a typical beef stew) or Bacalhau com Natas (Cod in Cream) – as always there will be a vegetarian option (booked in advance). All wine, beer and soft drinks are included in the lunch.
To make the day complete, popular music to listen, dance or sing to will be provided by ‘Steve on Sax’. The cost of the event is €23 for RBL members and €25 for non-members and there will be a prize draw.
As always, the event is open to everyone – you don’t need to be a member to come along. To book, contact Stephen at [email protected]
At that event, there will be a prize draw to support the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. However, what we really want to do is grow the membership. It costs around £23 a year. As well as the financial and social benefits you get for that, you are supporting a good cause and you are part of a community.
But, most importantly, you will help provide support to the Armed Forces’ community and their families – they have done so much for us, it would be good to give something back. If they were needed to protect us tomorrow, they would, so let’s be there for them today.
