As readers will know, every year the Royal British Legion hold a Poppy Appeal to raise vital funds, to continue their work to support veteran’s, from all the armed forces and their dependants.
Even in peacetime, service personnel get injured and the need for continued support is required every day. Here in the Algarve, the Royal British Legion Portugal and Atlantic Islands Branch is active all year round with monthly lunches in the Eastern, Central and Western Algarve areas, all helping to swell the coffers for the Poppy Appeal.
The annual dinner dance on November 5 is now one of the largest social events in the Algarve. This will be followed on November 13 with the Service of Remembrance at St Luke’s Church in Palhagueira, followed by an optional lunch.
December sees special Christmas lunch and dance afternoons in Moncarapacho on December 7 and Albufeira on December 11.
Poppy boxes are in bars, restaurants, shops and offices throughout the Algarve.
You can however donate to the Poppy Appeal by making a bank transfer to the following bank account:
Associacao British Legion Portugal
Millennium Bank

Every little helps, so donations large and small are very welcome. Please mention Poppy Appeal as a reference.
