THE ROYAL British Legion’s (RBL) Annual General Meeting was recently held at the Hotel Garbe in Armação de Pêra.
With a number of committee members resigning for various reasons, it was a delight to find that the Legion had this year recruited a number of volunteers to assist with the running of the Legion’s affairs in Portugal.Ron Goddard, who was re-elected chairman of the RBL for 2005/2006, outlined the Legion’s 50 years in Portugal, which will be celebrated in May 2006 with a Battlefield Tour, a week long series of golf competitions culminating in a gala dinner.
The Legion’s treasurer, Stewart Austin, informed members of the Legion’s good financial state and, as membership secretary, also reported that recruitment had been healthy. To follow the AGM, members had a buffet laid on by the hotel, which was praised for its hospitality and standard of food.
The RBL would like to remind readers that you do not have to have served in the Armed Forces to become a member. For information go to www.portugal.legionbranches.net
