Student Helena Spencer, 16, has been chosen by the Almancil International Rotary Club (AIRC) to spend a year in Houston, Texas, under the Rotary Long-Term Youth Exchange Scheme.
The object of the scheme is to enable young people to have the opportunity to broaden their horizons and learn of each other’s cultures.
Helena lives with her family in Olhão where she studies Science and Technology at school. She will spend a year in Houston staying with up to five families during the year and she will attend a local school.
AIRC and RC District 5890, Houston, Texas have collaborated in the scheme this year and two weeks ago, a student from Houston arrived to spend a year with Portuguese families (see August 17 edition).
