Members of Rotary Club Estoi Palace International have responded to the needs of a support centre for children in Tavira and recently delivered much-needed donations to help its cause.
O Centro de Apoio Integrado a Crianças ‘A Gaivota’ needed such items as furniture, bedding, toys and clothing, which were donated recently by the Club.
A Gaivota was set up in 2008 and has temporary accommodation and a day nursery which is intended to accommodate, for a limited period, up to 20 children of both sexes, aged between birth and 12 years.
The centre cares for children suffering from abandonment, physical or mental abuse. If they do not receive adequate care, they are subject to factors that affect their emotional growth or become involved in activities that can severely influence their health, safety and development.
Immediate care is provided by the centre to allow children to readjust and for an appropriate programme of recovery to be developed.
