Rotary Estoi celebrates birthday with croquet tournament

On a recent late-summer afternoon, members and friends of Rotary Club Estoi Palace International and other Algarve Rotary Clubs met at Bela Romão Croquet Country Club near Olhão to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the club’s charter.

Overlooking the Ria Formosa, the perfectly groomed pitch was a fabulous setting for a highly competitive croquet round-robin tournament which led to the crowning of two new individual champions – Salomé Luz Silva topped the women and Phil Wyndham was the men’s winner.

Each victor was presented with a bottle of Portuguese espumante by Estoi Palace President, Shirley Dunne. The team trophy was passed to Fiona Wilson, Veronica Pisco, Chris Garner and Phil Wyndham.

The festivities continued well into the evening, with everyone raving about the Moroccan-inspired meal and recalling wild versions of their croquet expertise.
