Rotary Club’s surprise visit to childrens’ home

A group of 35 members and guests from the recently-formed Porches International Rotary Club (PIRC) visited the Bom Samaritano home in Alvor on December 16 for a surprise Christmas party they had organised for the children. Along with them, they took two special guests.

Entertainment in the first half of the evening was provided by the children themselves and some of the home’s staff, who put on their own concert and delighted everyone with music, singing and dancing. For the second half of the concert, it was the turn of the first special guest, a magician who put on a truly magical performance for the children – both young and old!

Next on stage was Rotary member David Trubshaw (pictured below right), who dressed up as a Christmas tree and sang the Portuguese Christmas song Pinheirinho, Pinheirinho with help from the children.

It was then time for the second special guest and star of the evening – Father Christmas or Pai Natal for the children.

Each child was given their own sack of presents while everyone enjoyed a meal together.

One of the organisers said: “This was a perfect ending to a memorable evening in the true spirit of Christmas.”

Margarida Castanhito, the home’s technical director, said: “I want to thank, from the bottom of my heart, PIRC who provided such a wonderful evening for the Bom Samaritano children.”
