Rotary Club Estoi Palace International (RCEPI) is organising a collection to support local charity Cáritas, which currently assists more than 50 families in need in São Brás de Alportel.
The collection will take place between June 1 and 23, and donations should be of food, clothing and other items urgently required by these families.
In April, RCEPI decided to help Cáritas by arranging for two collections which took place in May and which were well supported.
Those wishing to contribute to this third collection should donate hygiene products for babies and adults, food (such as milk, olive oil, tinned sausages and cereals), clothes, shoes and towels. Everything collected will be handed over to Cáritas on June 23.

White Night fundraiser for Re-food
Is it possible that we throw away a third of all the food we produce? In 2010, an American expat living in Lisbon, Hunter Halder, realised that he could help to stop these shocking amounts of food being thrown away and reutilise them. And thus the Re-food project was born.
In March 2011, Re-food went into action with one volunteer on a bicycle visiting 30 restaurants and collecting enough food to feed 50 people in need for five days a week.
Today, there are 31 Re-food centres operating throughout the country where more than 4,500 volunteers are currently rescuing 46,000 meals a month from more than 900 food source partners and serving 2,500 people five to six days a week.
Faro is the next location for a new centre, in Rua do Alportel, and the official opening will be on May 14.
There will be a public presentation on May 13 by Hunter Halder at the Escola Superior de Saúde in Faro at 7pm, followed by the official opening on May 14.
RCEPI members were so impressed with this initiative that they decided to help with some fundraising to buy much-needed items. Together with the Rotary Club of Olhão and Alliance Française in the Algarve, RCEPI will be hosting a White Night Dinner at the Catering College in Faro on May 28 at 7.30pm. Cost is €20 per person.
