Rotary Club pulls out all the stops to bring Christmas cheer

A small party of Rotarians, family and friends are attending the Christmas party at the Bom Samaritano’s children’s home in Alvor on December 21 to help bring some festive cheer to the children.

During a recent visit to the home by the Almancil International Rotary Club (AIRC), Bom Samaritano director Margarida Castanhito told the club’s president Paul Lantau that they had never been able to get Father Christmas to come to their Christmas Concert.

Paul Lantau told the Algarve Resident that in the true Rotary spirit of ‘service above self’ and by special arrangement, he would personally guarantee that Father Christmas would be present at the children’s concert to distribute a few, early presents.

This annual concert is organised and presented by the children themselves, whose ages range from three to 18. They design and prepare all the scenery, organise their own acts and sing and dance for parents, staff and friends.

The Bom Samaritano children’s home receives abandoned, abused, neglected and underprivileged children, who all need regular psychological help and counselling. Their objective is to provide a stable, loving environment the children feel is their real home. The home is one of the charities supported by the AIRC.
