THE RECENT Jazz Evening, organised by the Rotary Club of Silves at the Fábrica do Inglês in Silves, raised approximately 2,000 euros for the Day Centre at São Marcos da Serra.
To satisfy an immediate need, this money was recently presented to the centre to cover installation costs of a large washing machine. Such is the demand for the laundry service by the old people who attend the centre that the existing domestic washing machine was proving inadequate.
Rotary fundraising for the Day Centre will be continuing, together with a focused drive for funds to make a meaningful contribution to the Bombeiros of Silves and Alcantarilha during this Rotary year.
This is a unique opportunity to enjoy Rotary fun and fellowship to the unmistakable strains of the New Orleans Jazz Band and to help local charities. Friday, September 2, is a date not to be missed at the idyllic setting of Ferragudo’s Praia Grande, with the superb facilities of the Nau Bar Restaurant. Arrive at 7pm for 7.30pm and enjoy jazz until 8.30pm. The buffet will be served between 8.30pm and 10pm, with a selection of meat, fish, shellfish and salads, puddings and coffee. One bottle of wine is provided between two persons. The evening will see a limited auction of oil paintings and a 50/50 raffle followed by a further jazz session. Tickets, at 25 euros each, are limited to a maximum of 80 people, so please reserve yours without delay. Be in tune – don’t miss it!
President’s invitation
The Rotary Club President invites all Rotarian holidaymakers to visit the club on either August 11 or 18 for coffee and fellowship at the Hotel Colina dos Mouros in Silves, at 9.15pm. They can also attend, with partners, the club’s monthly dinner meeting at the same venue on Thursday, August 25.
